The Islamophobia Cognitive scale outperforms older measures on validity

Evidence

Further examination of the MTMM matrix revealed that I-CG met the guidelines established by Campbell and Fiske (1959) more closely than previously established scales (Berry et al., 2005; Rowatt et al., 2009). The observed validity value of I-CG was observed to be larger in magnitude than the validity values for RWA and TF. Specifically, the I-CG validity value was observed to be larger in magnitude than the correlation between informant and participant RWA (r .30, p .002) and the correlation between informant and participant TF (r .36, p .001). Furthermore, the observed validity value of TF was smaller than the correlation between participant RWA and informant TF, which is a violation of the heterotrait–heteromethod discriminant validity requirement. Therefore, the I-CG met the MTMM guidelines for levels of validity as well as, or possibly better than, previously established and frequently used measures. — Sherman A. Lee, Chelsea A.
