Constructed dogmatism scales deliberately avoid targeting specific ideologies
Evidence
I hope you agree with me, as you examine the DOG items, that they do not refer to any particular field of thought or opinion. The statements apply to whatever someone takes to be the “important things” in life, the “central issues,” and so on. Because of this focus on the “biggies,” I do not propose that DOG scores will measure “rigidity” in smaller issues (such as the dispute over “You say ‘Tomato,’ and I say ‘Tomato’ ”’). But the DOG Scale was not hard-wired to make religious people, ardent socialists, environmentalists, or any group in particular look particularly dogmatic. — Bob Altemeyer, The Authoritarian Specter, 2687
