Dogmatism scale validity results did not replicate across samples and raters

Evidence

The inconsistency appeared in Rokeach’s own “validating” studies. For example, Catholics at Michigan State scored significantly higher on the D Scale than Protestants or nonbelievers, but not so in two New York City colleges, where no group scored higher than the other (Rokeach, 1960, pp. 109-115). Rokeach also found that people selected by students in his graduate seminar for being very open-minded, or very closed-minded, scored quite differently on the D Scale. But people selected by professors did not (pp. 102-108). (We shall close our minds to the interpretation that becoming a prof makes one an insensitive clod.) — Bob Altemeyer, The Authoritarian Specter, 2559
