The same moral disengagement mechanism takes different forms in different activity domains.
Evidence
Moral disengagement is not a dispositional trait that can be assessed by a one-size-fits-all measure. Disengagement mechanisms operate across different aspects of life, but they are manifested differently depending on the sphere of activity (Bandura, 2006). For example, justifications for the death penalty focus on retribution, public safety, and preservation of the social order. The tobacco industry justifies advertising campaigns designed to get youngsters hooked on smoking in terms of freedom of speech. Both examples use the justification mechanism, but they differ markedly in its form: capital punishment in terms of retribution, tobacco advertising in terms of free speech. Measures of moral disengagement must, therefore, be tailored to activity domains. — Albert Bandura, Moral Disengagement, 206
