New Christian
In Iberian history, “New Christian” (Spanish/Portuguese converso) designates those converted from Judaism or Islam to Christianity, and their descendants, who were socially distinguished from “Old Christians” of ancestral Christian lineage. They were often subject to Inquisition suspicion regardless of actual adherence to Christianity.
