White opposition to busing stems from convenience and perceived self-interest
Evidence
There are two important factors for why whites are so opposed to forced busing and those include their own selfinterest and racist beliefs. The self-interest of the parents of children who were assigned to minority school was that they saw no benefits to the process. … The schools were also not viewed as comparable in the levels of academics, athletics and other extra curricular activities. In short the parents gained nothing by sending their children across town to these black schools and were not willing to sacrifice their own comforts in order to establish a desegregated school system. — Marcy Crouch, Magnet Schools and Other Means of…, 25
