The oppressed are inside the oppressive structure, not marginal to it.

Evidence

The truth is, however, that the oppressed are not ā€œmarginals,ā€ are not people living ā€œoutsideā€ society. They have always been ā€œinsideā€ā€”inside the structure which made them ā€œbeings for others.ā€ The solution is not to ā€œintegrateā€ them into the structure of oppression, but to transform that structure so that they can become ā€œbeings for themselves.ā€ Such transformation, of course, would undermine the oppressors’ purposes; hence their utilization of the banking concept of education to avoid the threat of student conscientização. — Paulo Freire, Pedagogy of the Oppressed, 212
