The Arab terrorist figure predates and evolves into the Islamic terrorist.
Evidence
Drawing on the work of scholars in Arab American studies, I outline my argument that the economic, political, and social crises of the late 1960s and early 1970s created the conditions for the âArab terroristâ as a domestic and global formation, which would then evolve into the âIslamic terroristâ in later decades. I refer to this new process of terrorist racial formation as terrorcraft, which I explore in greater depth in a forthcoming book. At any rate, US Orientalism and modernization theory in the postwar era served as the basis for the racialization of international and domestic threats. â Deepa Kumar, Islamophobia and the Politics of Empire, 97
