Supposed left-wing authoritarians in past movements were probably right-wing wild cards

Evidence

Well then, what about all those earlier “sightings,” including Manitoba’s militant Maoists? I suspect that the hostile, dogmatic, authoritarian people who sometimes appeared in such movements were usually Wild-Card Authoritarians, not Left-Wingers. I have no proof of this, since the instruments needed to find these “combos” did not exist at the time. But I offer Table 9.1 as evidence. Maybe the future will bless us (?) with a resurgence of radical left-wing movements in North America, so we can test this prediction. — Bob Altemeyer, The Authoritarian Specter, 2993 (#corroborates, via linked claim)

Second, when I looked at these 49 relatively high LWAs, I found 11 of them had also been High RWAs (where they really were high), but only 6 of them had been Low RWAs. These “High-Highs” killed any chance for a big negative correlation. — Bob Altemeyer, The Authoritarian Specter, 2897 (#expands, via linked claim)

I call persons who reject the normal established authorities in society right-wing authoritarians when they believe the “real” established authority (e.g., their reading of God’s will, or the Constitution) has been usurped by left-wing Jews, feminists, homosexuals, and so on (Altemeyer 1996, p. 9). And indeed, RWA scores correlated solidly with Militia scale responses in this study. But some social dominators also held militia sentiments, and left-wing authoritarianism scores roared out the mightiest relationship of all. What in the name of holy conspiracy theories is going on here? — John T. Jost and Jim Sidanius, Political Psychology, 1000 (#complicates, via linked claim)
