The US government’s funding of genocide illustrates that the hate crimes it condemns are but one kind of violence Palestinians, Arabs, and Muslims face. In condemning this violence as hate while funding a genocide against Palestinians, Arabs, and Muslims, the US government covers up that the hate crimes are shaped by its policies. In other words, when US state officials denounce “hate crimes” against Palestinians, Arabs, or Muslims, the rhetoric absolves them from accountability for producing the conditions that fuel anti-Palestinian, anti-Arab, and anti-Muslim violence.
