Religious life-outlook correlates with the highest authoritarianism and dogmatism
Evidence
By contrast, in both samples the religiously oriented scored highest not only on the Zealot Scale but also in authoritarianism (means of 152.7 and 168.2, respectively). As you would also surmise from Table 8.2, people who based their life outlook on religion also had the highest scores on the DOG Scale in both samples (means of 74.4 and 83.4). β Bob Altemeyer, The Authoritarian Specter, 2782 (

The corresponding figures for the DOG Scale were β.20, β.33, .51, .33, and .43. All of these are in the expected direction, significant, and substantially larger than those obtained in this dogfight with the much longer D Scale. Moreover, the DOG Scale generally predicted these behaviors better than the RWA Scale did, though not by much. This surprised me, since one can find a fair amount of religious content on the latter, while the DOG Scale is contentneutral. β Bob Altemeyer, The Authoritarian Specter, 2797 (

And you know what it is: RWA scores. Fundamentalism correlated with prejudice because fundamentalists tended to be rightwing authoritarians. If you partial out the effect of mutual relationships with RWA scores, all of the connections between religious fundamentalism and authoritarian aggression become essentially zero. Do it the other way, and the RWA-aggression correlations are just nicked. β Bob Altemeyer, The Authoritarian Specter, 2134 (
