People deploy selective perception and motivated reasoning routinely when faced with evidence
Evidence
To be clear, I am not suggesting that selective perception, confirmation bias, and motivated reasoning - the left-hand side of my post-truth danger spectrum - aren’t commonplace. People can do at least three things in response to evidence: (1) update their beliefs in the direction of facts and evidence (3) update their beliefs in the opposite direction away from the evidence. — Sander van der Linden, Foolproof, 144
