New psychological instruments must be tested for incremental validity beyond established measures
Evidence
The purpose of Study 3 was to examine the incremental validity of the IS. Because the IS is a new psychological instrument, it is important to evaluate its ability to predict an outcome over and above other established measures (Hunsley & Meyer, 2003; Piedmont, 2005). For this study, state sympathy was examined as the criterion because, like fear, this emotion plays a prominent role in intergroup relations (Wispé, 1991). — Sherman A. Lee, Chelsea A.
