Much everyday trust emerges from reciprocated, ongoing relationships rather than from isolated exchanges.
Evidence
The model of mutual trust as trust from iterated exchange is not a definition of trust in certain relationships, but it is an explanation of much of the trust we experience or see, much of which is reciprocal and is grounded in ongoing relationships. As discussed further in chapter 3, trust is typically reducible to other terms. We can determine what some of these other terms are from the iterated exchange model, which is an explanatory theory of trust. Ongoing dyadic relationships of trust typically involve mutual trust. — Russell Hardin, Trust and Trustworthiness, 125

- QUESTION: Trust is ‘reducible to other terms’ — what are those other terms? Chapter 3 presumably spells them out, but this is worth chasing.
