MEMRI was founded by neocons to selectively translate Middle East media negatively
Evidence
A neocon and senior fellow of the Hudson Institute, the Israeli-born Meyrav Wurmser, established the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI) in 1998. MEMRI mainly seeks out news media articles from Middle East sources that cast the region and its politics in a negative light and translates them for domestic media consumption. (The equivalent of this institute in the Middle East might be one that selectively translated Fox News broadcasts or the rants of televangelists on the Christian Broadcasting Network as the key lens through which to understand the United States.) Another co-founder was a former colonel in the Israeli military intelligence organization. — Deepa Kumar, Islamophobia and the Politics of Empire, 445
