Material support laws also enabled FBI targeting of non-Muslim anti-war activists.
Evidence
“Material support” charges have been used to target a wide variety of people. While Muslims have been the key targets, non-Muslims have also been subject to similar treatment. In 2010, the FBI raided the homes and offices of anti-war activists (including Caucasian US citizens) in Illinois, Minnesota, and North Carolina. They were given grand jury subpoenas on the grounds that they provided material support for terrorism. The state not only equated their peace activism with providing material support to terrorists, but also infiltrated various leftist groups. FBI agents became active in the groups, formed friendships, and recorded private conversations. — Deepa Kumar, Islamophobia and the Politics of Empire, 580
