Individual motivation alone cannot sustain change without environmental and social support

Evidence

Motivating people to change has limited value if they have no access to appropriate resources and environmental supports for realizing those changes. Enlisting or creating environmental supports expands and sustains the changes promoted by the serial dramas. The dramatic productions are designed to operate via two pathways, first by informing, enabling, motivating, and guiding viewers. However, people also are socially situated in interpersonal networks (Bandura, 2006a; Rogers & Kincaid, 1981). — Albert Bandura, Moral Disengagement, 2836
