France’s eco move alienates Anglophone West African countries

Evidence

While the French government’s desire to expand its monetary empire could jeopardise integration efforts in West Africa, it could also create a renewed pan-Africanist solidarity within the region. Until now, resentment against French imperialism has mainly concerned French-speaking Africa. It has been fuelled by the presence of French military troops in the Sahel, protests against the CFA franc and clumsy statements by French officials. Since 21 December 2019, France began to alienate English-speaking countries in West Africa. — Fanny Pigeaud_ Ndongo Samba Sylla, Africa’s Last Colonial Currency, 381
