Exclusionary practices must be analytically separable from the ideology behind them

Evidence

What then are ‘exclusionary practices’? Firstly, if the threefold theoretical model is valid, then exclusionary practices must be separate from both the ideology and the visual, verbal, linguistic and other products through which such becomes manifested. As an ideological phenomena, it must be possible to analytically distinguish these from any socially, economically or politically manifested practice or process that in some way discriminates, prejudices, restricts or negates the participation or inclusion of Muslims either individually or collectively. If this is so, then this must be clearly and empirically demonstrated and not merely anecdotally inferred or assumed. — Chris Allen, Islamophobia, 801

Categorization

  • DEFINE: The threefold model analytically separates ideology, products, and consequences — a key structural feature distinguishing this approach from attitudinal definitions.
  • XREF: connects to: Ideology and material practice relate through systematic disjuncture, not correspondence; Exclusionary practices are Islamophobic through their causal origins, not their form — Chris Allen, Islamophobia, 804; Ritual separation practices functioned as social integration rather than mere exclusion — Zygmunt Bauman, Modernity and the Holocaust, 127
