Cultural homogeneity produces presumptions that ground stereotypes

Evidence

Cultural homogeneity emphatically encourages, if it doesn’t presuppose, denial of the multiple and diverse inïŹ‚uences on cultural expression. Homogeneity presumes the conviction that everything of cultural signiïŹcance and value is group determined, fashioned famously from within the conïŹnes of the group narrowly deïŹned. It strongly suggests, if it doesn’t entail, a presumptive commonality to group members’ character, the basis after all of stereotypes. — David Theo Goldberg, The Threat of Race, 1890
