Authoritarians tolerate governmental abuse and reject human rights protections

Evidence

The data on authoritarian submission speak with one voice. All the studies I know show that High RWAs tend to be more submissive to established authority than most people are. They tolerate and even approve of governmental abuse of power, they are relatively willing to cast aside constitutional shields against such abuse, they are indifferent to human rights issues, and in the USSR they spoke out openly against democracy. Moreover, the relationships in all these studies have proven substantial, often rising over .50. — Bob Altemeyer, The Authoritarian Specter, 292
