Anti-Semitism and Negrophobia share the same underlying structure

Evidence

At first thought it may seem strange that the anti-Semite’s outlook should be related to that of the Negrophobe. It was my philosophy professor, a native of the Antilles, who recalled the fact to me one day: “Whenever you hear anyone abuse the Jews, pay attention, because he is talking about you.” And I found that he was universally right–by which I meant that I was answerable in my body and in my heart for what was done to my brother. Later I realized that he meant, quite simply, an anti-Semite is inevitably anti-Negro. — Frantz Fanon, Constance Farrington, Black skin, white masks, 443 (#expands, via linked claim)

Although Black and Muslim identities overlap intimately in the demographics of France, the United States, and places beyond and in between, anti-Blackness and Islamophobia are distinct branches of bigotry. Yet young Desi Maher’s trenchant observation highlights the way in which both existences are ascribed deviance on account of their racialized identities. In the same fashion that law enforcement, and the judicial and carceral institutions that orbit and abet it, assign criminalized threat to Blackness, the War on Terror and its central purveyors assign suspicion of terrorism to Muslim bodies. — Khaled A. Looking to the other side of the Abrahamic aisle, Goldberg chronicled the rise of anti-Semitism in contemporary Europe, and considered the ways it has mirrored the rise of Islamophobia. Goldberg also did not shrink from considering the hate crimes that have been perpetrated against European Jews, by white nationalists, by Muslim extremists, and by other groups. Near the end of the article, Goldberg tells the story of a conversation between Joe Biden and a top Israeli official, in which the Israeli confides to Biden that Jews in Israel have a secret that gives them strength in times of challenge. And the secret is “we have nowhere else to go.” — Arsalan Iftikhar, Fear of a Muslim Planet_ Global…, 465 (#expands, via linked claim)
