The Other-as-object
A concept from existential phenomenology (particularly Sartre’s Being and Nothingness) describing the Other experienced as an object in the world, whose objectification reinforces the objectivity of the world, in contrast to the Other-as-look which dissolves the world’s objectivity. It refers to how the look of another person reduces them to an object among objects in one’s perceptual field.
