Panopticon
A concept of institutional surveillance architecture designed by Jeremy Bentham, in which a single watchtower allows observers to monitor inmates in a circular building without them knowing whether they are being watched. It is often discussed as an abstract diagram of power and disciplinary control that extends beyond physical prisons—Foucault’s analysis makes it a canonical metaphor for modern surveillance societies.
