African American Muslims

A distinct demographic and religious community within American Islam composed of Black Americans whose Islamic heritage often traces to indigenous American Muslim movements (e.g., the Nation of Islam) and early American history. They constitute the largest plurality of Muslim Americans but experience racialization as Black before being seen as Muslim, reflecting a distinct history of racialized religion.
