Zyklon B was tested and selected as the execution agent at Auschwitz

Evidence

I photocopied pages 206-218 of his autobiography, prefacing them with the title page of the book, and a note saying, “This article is taken from the autobiography of Rudolf Hoess, who was the Commandant of Auschwitz.” Hoess begins these pages, an appendix to his autobiography, by describing the orders from Hitler through Heinrich Himmler in the summer of 1941 to eliminate-the Jews, and the need to build a mass execution facility at Auschwitz. He details how Zyklon B was tested and chosen to kill the prisoners and describes the early days when relatively small numbers were gassed. He reveals that for a while the bodies were buried in mass graves, but toward the end of the summer of 1942 so many people were being killed in a day that the bodies were burned in huge piles in the open, “day and night, continuously.” — Bob Altemeyer, The Authoritarian Specter, 3169
