White political violence against Black people has never actually stopped
Evidence
Starting in the 1870s, in the period of so-called Redemption, lawmakers throughout the South enacted Jim Crow laws that stripped Black people of much of their newfound freedom. Other white people, often aided by law enforcement, waged a campaign of terror against Black people that would go on for decades. In fact, white political violence stretched well into the twentieth and early twenty-first centuries, taking on new and more insidious forms that continue to unsettle Black life in America today. — Nikole Hannah-Jones et al., The 1619 Project, 901
