Two-way typologies dissolve into two interacting dimensions when analyzed.

Evidence

Typologies come in two forms: one is a nominal typology, the second is a partially ordered typology. This chapter starts with the nominal and then moves to partially ordered typologies, which might eventually be completely ordered (i.e., ordinal). This is important because two-way typologies can easily be seen as just two concepts, each with its own underlying dimension, that interact. Viewed in this way the typology just disappears. — Gary Goertz, Social Science Concepts and Measurement, 1202
