Trustworthiness can hold universally while trust cannot rationally
Evidence
Note incidentally that the asymmetry between trust and trustworthiness with respect to dispositions means that trustworthiness might be a two-part relation in a way that trust cannot sensibly be. I might be trustworthy with respect to any and every matter that anyone entrusts to me (again, assuming there are no negative external effects). I am then trustworthy with respect to the class of people who would entrust anything to me. Yet there are few if any people I would trust with respect to everything. — Russell Hardin, Trust and Trustworthiness, 215

- XREF: This structural asymmetry in Hardin’s account supports the reading where the wife can be trustworthy toward all despite being unable to trust any: her sightedness removes reliance on others’ trustworthiness, inverting the relation entirely.
