Trustworthiness beyond the family requires networks that extend past kin
Evidence
We may sum up the distinctive quality of these societies by noting that they lack networks that go beyond the family. They have neither a multiplicity of networks nor a multiplex, all-inclusive network. They have only a collection of unrelated, mutually exclusive familial networks. Hence they can achieve trustworthiness beyond the family neither through the imposition of group sanctions nor with the imposition of network or extended dyadic sanctions. — Russell Hardin, Trust and Trustworthiness, 474
