Trump’s election triggered a 300-percent spike in anti-Muslim hate group membership

Evidence

Islamophobia not only helps our enemies, but it also threatens our own democratic freedoms as well. Following Trump’s election, the Southern Poverty Law Center reported on a surge in bias-motivated hate crimes in the seven days following the election. Further, membership in anti-Muslim hate groups saw a quick spike, increasing by at least 300 percent. A mosque in Ypsilanti, Michigan was burned to the ground. Another—in Tucson, Arizona—was broken into and its copies of the Quran ripped apart. In Bloomington, Minnesota, a homemade bomb exploded at an Islamic center during morning prayers. — Arsalan Iftikhar, Fear of a Muslim Planet_ Global…, 778
