The study of neoliberalism depended heavily on one researcher’s database work

Evidence

Bernhard Walpen decided against participating in this volume after an irreconcilable conflict arose. This is deeply regrettable inasmuch as he was slated to be a coauthor of this introduction, which relies in part on his keynote lecture, “The Plan to End Planning: A Short History of Neoliberalism,” delivered at the New York University / International Center for Advanced Studies conference held April 28–30, 2005 (Walpen 2005). Nobody has contributed more than Bernhard Walpen to critical analysis of the Mont Pèlerin Society (including the development of databases of members and think tanks). — Philip Mirowski & Dieter Plehwe (eds.), The Road from Mont Pèlerin, 172

Categorization

  • QUESTION: Who is Bernhard Walpen and what did his member/think-tank databases contain? Worth chasing for the intellectual history.
  • corroborated: 2 independent passages support this claim — Philip Mirowski & Dieter Plehwe (eds.), The Road from Mont Pèlerin: The Making…, 172
