Substance contains its own future reinterpretations as virtual attributes.
Evidence
By introducing into νς an ‘element of potentiality’ Hegel accounts for the subject’s ability to differentiate itself in time, thus enabling the translation of Aristotelian philosophemes into the language of speculative idealism. It may be the case that Hegel does not abide by the separation of ontological levels important to Aristotle’s thinking; yet, by this exegetical coup de force he insists that absolute substance cannot be understood outside of its own auto-differentiation. This is tantamount to saying that substance as it is conceived by Aristotle can include among its own attributes the possibility – that which will be its fate, or its future – of being interpreted through conceptual determinations which are not those of Aristotle. The play of πσειν and νεργε!ν within νς must be interpreted, from a Hegelian perspective, as providing the possibility for substance to ‘see (itself) coming’. — Catherine Malabou, The Future of Hegel, 474
