States with more historical lynchings have higher poverty today

Evidence

Even more startling, research shows that states with historically higher levels of black lynching have higher levels of poverty today, for both black and white Americans. Nationwide, almost 21 percent of black Americans live in poverty compared with just over 9 percent of white Americans. Yet the numbers are significantly greater across both groups in Southern states with the highest rates of lynching. — Dorothy A. Brown, Getting to Reparations, 432
