Speech reception thresholds closely duplicate averaged audiometric thresholds
Evidence
The SRT has been documented to essentially reflect average audiometric thresholds at 500, 1000, and 2000 Hz, and should be redundant with the audiogram. Word recognition scores, on the other hand, provide an upper limit for a patient’s ability to understand speech and are, when possible, measured at audible levels. — Jennifer Lentz, Psychoacoustics- Perception of Normal…, 1756

- QUESTION: If SRT is essentially redundant with the average audiogram, why is it still measured — what discrepancy signals retrocochlear involvement? Worth investigating.
