South Asia has the most children experiencing physical punishment of any region
Evidence
New Delhi. The UNICEF South Asia Regional Office. The latest round of MICS and DHS data across the eight South Asian countries — India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, Maldives, Afghanistan — shows a regional average of approximately 65% of children aged 1–14 experiencing physical punishment in the past month. The number is lower than sub-Saharan Africa’s 82% and the Pacific’s 75%, but it represents approximately 400 million children — the largest absolute number of any world region because South Asia contains the largest child population on earth. — , The Rod and the Child, 5459
