Singling out Islam for sexism is systematic othering, not historical oversight.

Evidence

As I have laid it out, there are three central aspects to this definition. First, indiscriminate means that differentiated attitudes or emotions do not constitute Islamophobia. If a Muslim woman grows up in a country where Islam is interpreted to justify forced subservience or female circumcision, she (and others) may hold negative attitudes or emotions directed at some interpretations of Islam by some Muslim communities. Questioning or even criticizing aspects of Islamic doctrine or practices of specific subgroups of Muslims is not automatically Islamophobia. However, if she (or others) concludes from these examples that Islam or Muslims as a whole are worthy of condemnation, it becomes an indiscriminate attitude that constitutes Islamophobia. — Erik Bleich, What Is Islamophobia and How Much Is…, 27 (#qualifies, via linked claim)

This is not only a question of good social-scientific and policy analysis, but one of solidarity. People who purport to be feminist when it comes to Muslim women, while at the same time affirming Islamophobic tropes and failing to address wider gender or other inequalities, are inconsistent. Tackling gender inequality generally will indeed benefit Muslim women, but those benefits will be incomplete unless anti-Muslim racism is directly challenged too. Because of the way that Muslim women are particularly affected by anti-Muslim racism, we must reaffirm the need to challenge all forms of gender and racial inequality, to improve the lives of Muslim women and all people affected by social inequalities and injustice. — Runnymede Trust (ed.
