Seven foundations gave over forty-three million dollars to Islamophobic groups from 2001 to 2009

Evidence

Seven foundations contributed close to forty-three million dollars to these new McCarthyites between 2001 and 2009. The main funders are the Donors Capital Fund, the Richard Mellon Scaife Foundation, the Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation, the Newton D. and Rochelle F. Becker Foundations and Charitable Trust, the Russell Berrie Foundation, the Anchorage Charitable Fund, the William Rosenwald Family Fund, and the Fairbrook Foundation. — Deepa Kumar, Islamophobia and the Politics of Empire, 549

Seven foundations contributed close to 43 million to these new McCarthyites between 2001 and 2009. The main funders were the Donors Capital Fund (DCP), the Richard Mellon Scaife Foundations, the Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation, the Newton D. and Rochelle F. Becker Foundation and charitable trust, the Russell Berrie Foundation, Anchorage Charitable Fund and William Rosenwald Family Fund, and the Fairbrook Foundation. Of these, the DCP, an offshoot of Donors Capital (DC), is associated with the Koch brothers. In 2008 alone, they poured 17 million into the distribution of the film Obsession: Radical Islam’s War with the West, which postulates that the threat of “Islam” is comparable to Nazism. Between the years 2009 and 2015, the biggest recipient of DCP/DC funds was Pipes’s Middle East Forum, but Gaffney’s CSP and Horowitz’s Freedom Center also benefited from their money. These Islamophobic groups continue to thrive and to channel ideas and funds to their European counterparts. The Spinwatch report shows that three giant corporate donor-advised funds (Fidelity, Vanguard, and Schwab Charitable Fund) have contributed millions to the Islamophobia network. — Deepa Kumar, Islamophobia and the Politics of Empire, 685
