Rokeach’s dogmatism theory aimed to capture authoritarianism of either political flank
Evidence
In response to this criticism, Rokeach (1954) conceptualized dogmatism as a cognitive style characterized by “a relatively closed cognitive organization of beliefs and disbeliefs about reality” that “provides a framework for patterns of intolerance towards others” (p. 195), and developed the D scale to measure it. Persons high on dogmatism would be highly susceptible to authoritarian ideologies of either right or left, and likely to reject persons who held beliefs different from their own. Like Allport, but not Adorno et al., Rokeach viewed cognitive style as a core trait of the “prejudiced personality.” — , Rudman, Laurie A - On the Nature of…, 2444
