Right-wing authoritarians conform to majority opinion more than others do.
Evidence
In 1983 I gave the RWA Scale to a batch of Manitoba students. The following week I asked them to reanswer the test, which now included, before each item, the average answer it had received from the whole sample on the first go-around. I explained, “Many students wonder how their attitudes compare with those of others … You may take into account the average response printed alongside each statement, or you may ignore it completely.” … Both Low and High RWAs, who were by definition equally distant from the average scores, moved a little toward the center on the retest. But the Highs shifted more than twice as much as the Lows (p < .001). The difference could not be explained in terms of regression toward the mean (EOF, pp. 310-311). — Bob Altemeyer, The Authoritarian Specter, 475
