Revealed religion marks spirit’s becoming-subject through self-revelation

Evidence

In ‘natural religion’ (the religion of the Parsees and early Indian religions), ‘spirit knows itself as its object in a natural or immediate shape’. In the ‘religion of art’ (Greek religion), consciousness produces itself in the form of a ‘Self’, so that when consciousness admires its object, it is in fact intuiting itself, as we see in the beauty of classical art. Here ‘naturality’ (Naturalität), formerly the religious object for spirit, is annulled. But it is for the first time in Revealed Religion that the spirit’s attainment of self-knowledge is actually incarnated in a man, a determinate self. From this point on, spirit becomes selfconsciousness while the divine essence becomes human. — Catherine Malabou, The Future of Hegel, 770 (#corroborates, via linked claim)

God is this: not merely to be in himself, but to be just as essentially for himself. That God is spirit consists in this: that he is not only the essence that maintains itself in thought but also the essence that appears, the essence that endows itself with revelation and objectivity (Gegenständlichkeit). Although we consider the idea of God this way in the philosophy of religion, we at the same time also have before us the mode of God’s representation. God represents only himself and does so only to himself (er stellt sich nur vor und stellt sich selber vor sich). This is the aspect of the being-there (Dasein) of the absolute. — Catherine Malabou, The Future of Hegel, 815 (#expands, via linked claim)

Hegel differentiates Revealed Religion from the previous figures of religion because it awakens in us the intuitive perception of the necessity of coming-to-be (la nécessité du devenir), the evolution or development (devenir) through which substance raises itself to the form of selfconsciousness. Now this necessity could not be produced; it can only be something that ‘offers itself’ to intuition. — Catherine Malabou, The Future of Hegel, 862 (#qualifies, via linked claim)
