Researchers sometimes conceal or later retract promised feedback to protect participants
Evidence
I do not give students veridical personal feedback, despite this statement at the beginning of some of my surveys. I do, however, explain when I give feedback to these classes why I lied to them, and why it would be wrong and potentially harmful to give them their RWA scores, and other results. To illustrate, the Secret Survey I administered in January 1994 began with a question about gender and then asked whether the person was a virgin. If not, it went on, how many times had the person had intercourse, and with how many different partners? — Bob Altemeyer, The Authoritarian Specter, 4057
