Religious salience is a composite index of belief, prayer, attendance, and importance
Evidence
We use the Muslim and Evangelical Protestant rates of adherence per 1,000 people and include a measure of religious salience within each state, taken from the Pew Religious Landscape Study (2014). Religious salience was operationalized as a 0-1 index of religiosity based on respondent answers to four questions about the importance of religion in their life, religious attendance, frequency of prayer, and belief in God. — Emily Greene-Colozzi, Amy Adamczyk, and Senahan Kiyal Keles, Differences in Religious Framing of…, 51
