Released Somali politicians defiantly refused Barre’s intimidation at the meeting
Evidence
Osman, Haji Musa, and Hussen spoke for the group. Osman noted that he was happy if the regime accomplished all they claimed, but their incarceration was illegal and unjustified and that if they were guilty of any crimes they should be judged in court. He told Barre that the remark about not waiting to be shot was a naked threat and that the regime was looking for excuses to deprive them of their rights. He said if that was the case, they might as well return them to detention immediately. Osman and Haji Musa agreed with him, but Barre did not respond to them. — Abdi Ismail Samatar, Africa’s First Democrats, 1055
