Racial theory reduces to ethnicity, class, and nation paradigms

Evidence

In Part I, Paradigms of Race: Ethnicity, Class, and Nation, we examine recent racial theory in the United States. We argue that this theory is encompassed by three paradigmatic approaches to race and racism— approaches based on the categories of ethnicity, class, and nation. These approaches are paradigms,” in the sense that they have particular core assumptions and highlight particular key issues and research variables. Racial paradigms have implicit and explicit policy and political action orientations; they also serve as guides for research and education about race and racism. — Michael Omi, Howard Winant, Racial Formation in the United States, 25
