Racial disparities persist through mixed factors rather than conscious white racism
Evidence
The continuing disparities in resources that are evident across racialized groups, and the patterns of discrimination that sustain such disparities, cannot be explained primarily as the result of the conscious racist intentions of whites. Rather a combination of factors shapes them, including economic factors, political factors, sexism, and psychological needs. Better to look at all ideologies and explore the content, intent, and outcomes. — David Theo Goldberg, John Solomos, A Companion to Racial and Ethnic Studies, 1907
Categorization
- XREF: Connects to the small-acts-of-decorum framing: both resist single-mechanism causal explanations, favoring layered, outcome-focused analysis.
- DEEPTHINKING: Dense claim that overturns both conservative colorblindness and reductive structuralism: disparities are real but not mainly intentional — the analytic move is to hold intent and outcome together.
