Pisacane advocated peasant armies and a war of national insurrection, anticipating the Russian Narodniks
Evidence
Carlo Pisacane (1818-57) was a prominent Risorgimento man of action and military theorist, notable for his advocacy of the creation of peasant armies and a “war of national insurrection”. Gramsci commended his perception of the need for a “Jacobin” element in the Risorgimento, but said that he should be compared to the Russian Narodniks. — Antonio Gramsci, Selections from the Prison Notebooks, 1890

- XREF: Pisacane’s peasant-army insurrectionism links to Gramsci’s own later concept of the war of position vs. war of maneuver — the Jacobin element he saw missing in the Risorgimento is the organic intellectual-vanguard gap central to his theory.
