Performing identity in public differs from passing by staying contained in public space

Evidence

In contrast to passing, the game of performing is primarily played out in the public sectors of the city and it tends to encompass less of the individual’s life-round. When the adventurer is finished with his game, he retires to private space and assumes again the identity which he claims as his own. In what is perhaps its most classic version, the game is played by those who utilize the public space of the city to beg. — Lyn H. Lofland, World of Strangers_ Order and Action in…, 949
