Peremptory challenges let attorneys remove jurors without giving reasons
Evidence
Attorneys may also remove a limited number of prospective jurors through peremptory challenges. In exercising peremptory challenges, attorneys need not specify their reasons nor gain the judge’s approval for removing a juror. Thus, peremptory challenges enable each side to eliminate prospective jurors whom they suspect of being predisposed against their client, even if the jurors have not displayed any overt prejudice that would justify a challenge for cause. — G.
