Original Luddites resisted industrial labor exploitation, not technology itself

Evidence

The “Luddites” are perhaps the most famous example of this spirit of retrenchment and reaction, so much so that their name has become a moniker for anyone opposed to technology. Who were the original Luddites, anyway? As it happens, they were a network of loosely organized radical agitators in the British Isles in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. Their concern? Labor equity, and resistance to the new forms of exploitation then arising in the textile trades at the dawn of the Industrial Revolution. — The Friends of Attention, Attensity!, 261
